Preface

Dear Reader, this is a book that requires a pre-reading explanation. The subject of angels is dramatically popular today. This is true in conversation, in television and in books. Mostly, only good angels or guardian angels and their contacts with people are discussed and presented. This is an anecdotal approach to the subject. Each story of angel contact is usually wound around a good angel surreptitiously intervening in a crisis time. These interventions are mysterious, heartwarming and often miraculous. We need to hear of these encounters and we sometimes yearn to experience an angelic meeting ourselves. Books on angels run into the hundreds, but the who, why, what and when of angels remains a mystery wrapped in an enigma. If this is true of the pure angels, the messengers of God, it is a hundred times more so of the evil angels, the fallen ones. What happened to the angels that fell from heaven? Where did they go? What did they do just prior to and after they fell? Were there leaders of this angelic group? Did they have a purpose, a plan? How did they, as spiritual beings, manifest physically? Were they related to giants as ancient sources declare? Was and is there a relationship with the demons of the Bible? Did they take part in pagan worship and the licentious liturgy that accompanied it? What does the Bible and general history have to say on these things? Are there other ancient sources that can give us information and help us with these mysteries? Do demons have a tie-in here? Who are these demons? Where did they come from? How about some of the religions in the world today? Do they have a history of demon influence, even authorship? What is the power of fallen angels and demons today?

These questions and many others are answered in this book, A Conspiracy of Angels. It is written in the context of what is biblical, mythological, historical and finally anecdotal. If it is true what one angel historian said, “fallen angels are ten times more active today than the pure ones,” then we must study and prepare for our encounter with them. That is why this book was written. I do not apologize for it being a little too academic here, a little too Bible-bound over there and a little too anecdotal near the end. These things are part of the method that uncovers the manifestations and unholy strategies of the fallen ones. They, in dark purpose touched, influenced and often controlled cultures, civilizations and powerful leaders from Adam’s garden state to the United Nations. Politics and religion were, from the first, favorite arenas of the contest for power for Satan and his fallen horde. The opportunity is now ours to know their purpose, the plan and the history of this devilish master plot. It is good to know that we have a guardian angel to protect us and the Holy Spirit to guide us in our pilgrim’s progress.

Chapter 1

The Story Unfolds

What happened to and through the angels of God that rebelled and were cast down from heaven? It is evident that they were cast down from heaven to earth and imprisoned in earth’s vicinity. Their former galactic freedom and life movement was taken from them. From henceforth, they must share life space with God’s earthly creation. Having found themselves in this circumstance did they conspire to continue to react rebelliously toward God and His divine plan for earth and its creatures? Would Satan, their deposed leader, organize his hierarchy to lead them to follow an eons long campaign of unimagined evil?

God Had a Plan

God’s plan for His earthly creation is outlined in the Scripture, utilizing the two main stages of Law and Grace. Righteousness into eternal life is the intent. The Law declared what righteousness was, and Grace exhibited who righteousness is. The LAW was given to show what man was and was not. Grace shows us who God is in himself and desires to be in man. As soon as man fell in the garden with the help of one who had fallen before, God prophetically declared His plan for man’s redemption. God’s plan would be formulated around a person. It would be buoyed along in the flow of history, moving with men of faith through desolate deserts, fields of shepherding care, and palaces of royal station. The plan would itself be born of flesh in a humble stable. The incarnate babe would grow into the incarnate man. For three years the plan of God would be freely exhibited, and a full commentary on its intents and purposes patiently and profoundly given. The divinely demanded transaction by sacrifice would be offered on a barren hill outside Jerusalem’s wall.

What God’s plan had only promised before, was now paid in full ransom that would guarantee its prophetic fulfillment. The king would then he crowned and the kingdom would be granted. The long coming end would usher in the eternal beginning.

The Nephilim: Satan’s Own Incarnate Plan

Is it not logical to think that Satan also devised a plan, but with complete opposition and counter-action to everything in Gods plan? He knew of his eventual end, and that his expulsion from heaven was only a temporary judgment. Did he imagine that he could possibly change his destiny by reassembling his angelic forces here on earth, and win his war of independence on this battlefield? Did he convince himself that if he seduced God’s image creature, man, into joining his campaign that he could surely win? Did he think that man, God’s new and beloved creation, would be God’s Achilles’ heel? We cannot know these answers, but we must surely suppose that his evil genius devised a plan of action. It appears that man was first involved at the tree, in the garden. When man sinned, he became an ally with Satan in the fallen state. Having been seduced once, man would join with Satan in an affair that would span millenniums. Considering these things, it is not surprising that Satan used his supernormal brilliance to foster confusion and frustrate the plan of God. One of his first strategies was to have the “sons of God” choose wives from among “the daughters of men” (Genesis 6:4), and have aberrant, mutated offspring that would control the affairs of men. These incarnate spirit beings (nephilim) grew into giants in stature and presumably of mind. The flood of Noah didn’t bring an end to the nephilim, for they surfaced again with Nimrod after the flood, Nimrod was a nephilim that continued the anti-God rebellion. He was the father of cities that served as magnets to attract people into unspeakable sin. It was true in the time of Babylon, as it was later with Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the same today, except the cities are larger. It was in Babylon that organized paganism began. Here we affirm that Satan was the author of organized, corporate religion. It was, however, long before the flood and the tower of Babel that God not only recognized, but reacted to the constant orgy of sin on the earth. It is not difficult to diagnose the cause or the guilty clientele of sin’s abomination,

Genesis 6:4-5 tells the story:

4 – There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5 – And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 – And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

“Man” is listed as the culprit in verses five, six and seven. What we must quickly add, is that the “giants” in verse four were accounted as “man”. The Hebrew word used for “giants” in Genesis 6:4 is nephilim (cast down ones), and refers to the angel-human mutated progeny that is listed here. God acted, early on, to thwart Satan’s plan for man, by sending a deluge of destruction that would literally wash away sin from the earth by washing away sinners. The chief sinners and leaders in rebellion were the giants (nephilim). The Bible tells us that only eight people, Noah’s family, survived the flood. Yet, we find that nephilim popped up again after the flood. How could this happen? How and in whom did they manifest?

Rebellion Continues After the Flood

What about the “creeping” things, and the serpent of Genesis chapter three, that was cursed to “creep…upon thy belly…all the days of thy life”? We will discuss this later in the study. The judgment of Noah’s flood was so catastrophic and apocalyptic that its force and source, let alone its extent, is not commonly known. Where the water came from and the tectonic results of its overwhelming hydraulic power will be a part of our study also. In the reading of Genesis, it doesn’t take much to see that sin again erupted after the flood. Nimrod was nephilimic and in his rebellion, began to build cities. The tower of Babel was to be constructed as a religious edifice inside the city walls of Babylon. The judgment that struck the builders of Babel was the second judgment against man’s sin. When God stopped the building’s progress by separating the language into many languages, he also separated the people on earth. The actual dividing of the earth in Peleg’s day is one of the most intriguing events of our very ancient history. The religion of rebellion, authorized by Nimrod and his wife Semiramis, was the beginning of a paganism that would permeate all of mans history. We use the “old stories” for much of our information on this subject. As there was very little that was actually written down at this time, it is oral history that we must repair to. Some scholars refer to these old stories as “myths” and “legends” because they have been passed on orally. However, these same scholars have declared that the Bible is full of myths and legends as well. The scholars, above all people, should know that all history is oral before it is written. Historians of antiquity wrote down what was said! Today, it is even truer, as history writers read and then quote the words of other history writers. This is the reason for bibliographies. The history of ancient Sumer, earth’s oldest civilization, does give us some written records which help immensely. We have for instance, the Sumerian flood story that antedates the Genesis account of Noah’s flood. Our study covers this dramatic parallel in some detail.

The Mother Child Cult

It was the beginning of the Babylonian religion that established one of the most unique and perverse cults in all of religion: the Mother-Child cult. After Nimrod’s death, Semiramis, with the intent to deify the dead Nimrod through his son Tammuz, established the initial Mother-Child worship concept. From Babylon to Egypt, to Greece, to Rome, to almost every major culture, the Mother-Child worship phenomenon was established. It finally, by the third century after Christ, was firmly entrenched in what would be known as the Roman Catholic Church. It survives and thrives in that body today.

A Giant Failure

We have mentioned that the “giants” emerged after the flood to continue their anti-God activities, especially in Mesopotamia and the land of Canaan. The Bible carries the story until the giants are defeated under Joshua and expelled from Israel’s new “Promised Land”. After this the Bible tells us no more of “giants” and we are forced to rely on western sources for further giant history. We may safely conclude that the devil’s early plan to terrify God’s children and threaten His purposes, was a strategic failure. As the giants exhibited their size and power in physical confrontation, the Lord supernaturally empowered His people to defeat them. After their defeat in Canaan the “giants” scattered to the winds of the west. Only camp fire stories of occasional sightings would remain.

From Failure to Fantasy

About 2500 years after the wars of Joshua, the world would see the resurrection of the giants, not as demonic beings, but as subjects of fantasy literature. It was as if these heroes of literature had been going to Sunday School. The reality of who they were and the terror they triggered would be forgotten by man. The passing millennia had dulled the dread. For a while Italian and French literature would elevate giantism from its antediluvian beginning to its metaphoric credential application to the royal houses of Europe! What an absurd twist. It makes the DNA helix look like a straight line! By the time the twentieth century rolled around, giants would be the fodder of cartoons and children’s stories. What a hilarious end for such a hellish beginning. Satan’s battle strategy had not only backfired, but had ended up as pie in his face! God’s reaction to Satan’s underestimating failure is classic: “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: The Lord shall have them in derision.” I feel that we can enjoy the liberty of reaction as well. With the wisdom of hindsight and the safety of years we might well join the battle with Job’s horse:

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet. He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. (Job 39:79-26)

The Giants Disappear Physically, but Reappear in the Spirit

We, like Job’s horse, “smell the battle afar off” and say “Ha, Ha!” Yet, the enemy has not yet lost the war, just the battle. The giants have disappeared physically, but not spiritually. What is it that happens when giants die? We look to the Book of I Enoch, a highly credible resource, for our answer:

And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall he their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men, and from the holy watchers is their beginning and primal origin; they shall be evil spirits on earth and evils spirits shall they be called. (I Enoch 15:8&9)

These verses declare the second stage of Satan’s evil plan in his effort to control man. The giant manifestation was essentially physical. From now on, these evil spirits will swell the ranks of the regiments from hell. The enemy’s manifestation will now be essentially in the spirit. Paul said it well in describing that we war in the spirit, not the flesh:

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalted itself against the know/edge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. (II Corinthians 10.3-6)

Spiritual Warfare, A New Strategy

When Paul talks of “casting down imaginations” he is explaining to us that it is our mind that monitors and commands our spirit in this spiritual invasion. Our warfare is not of the flesh and our weapons aren’t either. What we are fighting for is spiritual, and what we are fighting with is spiritual. Verse six reminds us of the age-old reason for this continuing war. The reason for it was angelic disobedience. This prompted Satan’s fall and fueled his obsessive animosity toward God and His children. The giants, then, died and gave up their evil spirits which were formed into new military units that joined with the “sons of God” to form a vast army of spiritual beings. The “watchers” as Enoch calls these “sons of God”, no longer have access to heaven, but must live their lives as earth bound creatures. This probably precipitated their joining with women of the earth, which joining then produced the giants of Genesis. But, as we have seen, these giants became the target of God’s judgment. These giants afflicted mankind until they were finally physically destroyed. Casting aside their flesh like a tattered garment they moved in satanic concert in the spirit. The Book of Enoch tells us that they will continue to “cause trouble” and “work destruction on the earth” until the “day of consummation.” This “day” is in the future and corresponds with the return of Christ and the judgment of all things. The joining of forces of the spirits of giants and the spirit entities called “sons of God” or “watchers” signaled a strategic change in Satan’s opposition against the kingdom of God. The “watchers”, according to Enoch, have leaders, or a hierarchy, that provides command personages and military guidance for the less sophisticated spirits of the giants. It is this kind of bellicose spirit force that Paul is referring to in II Corinthians. Paul explained it for Christians of his time, and it remains true for ours. In the following study we explain these things and discuss the evil spirits as to their identities and activities. We then spend time with those ordained spiritual leaders who have engaged these demonic forces. But, it all begins with the “sons of God” in the first book of the Bible.
